In a bid to find forever homes for shelter pets, Memphis Animal Services (MAS) has announced a significant reduction in adoption fees in celebration of 901 Day — an occasion that marks the city's area code and symbolizes a broader community spirit. According to a WREG report, from Friday, August 30, to Sunday, September 1, potential pet parents can adopt a new four-legged companion for only $9.01, a notable discount from the standard $40 fee for most cats and dogs.
The initiative is part of an effort by MAS to encourage community members to welcome pets in need into their homes, with the promotion being aptly priced at $9.01 in honor, of the annual 901 Day celebration. Action News 5 highlighted that normally, the adoption fee includes dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. It also noted special rates such as $20 for dogs in urgent need of rescue or pets with medical needs; and $10 for barn cats.
For those interested in making the commitment to adopt, MAS will be open for visitors on Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will continue operating from noon to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Not only does this event provide a financial incentive to adopt, but it also shines a light on the importance of giving these animals a loving home — punctuating the city's spirit of giving on 901 Day.
The city's online announcement, as shared on a social media post, encourages residents: "Don’t miss this amazing chance to bring home your new furry family member! 🐶🐱." The MAS facility, located at 2350 Appling City Cove, anticipates welcoming potential pet owners throughout the weekend, offering not just a new pet but a new beginning for both the animals and their adopters.
We’re thrilled to announce that in honor of 901 Day, MAS is offering $9.01 adoption fees from Friday, 8/30 to Sunday, 9/1! 🐾
