An alarming assault occurred at a gas station on Alcoa Highway near Green Acres Flea Market, where a woman was attacked in her vehicle by a man later identified as 32-year-old Demarious Moore of Memphis. The Alcoa Police Department (APD) has since apprehended Moore, who has been charged with burglary and aggravated assault. In a statement obtained by WVLT, the APD detailed that the suspect, after the woman returned to her car, grabbed her throat but was fought off due to her quick reflexes.

The incident, which was caught on surveillance video, shows the victim leaving her car to quickly enter the gas station, during which time Moore entered the backseat and laid down on the floorboard, waiting for her return. According to a report by WATE, the woman was able to not only escape the assault but also to promptly call 911 and provide a detailed description of Moore, leading to his rapid apprehension.

Following the event, APD is strongly urging the public to exercise vigilance. "The APD warns the public to lock car doors and be aware of all surroundings. These incidents do happen, even in our small town. While the subject of this attack is in police custody and off the streets, the APD asks citizens to please stay vigilant and watchful, even if you think you’ll only be out of your vehicle for a few minutes," APD cautions in a release, as reiterated by WBIR.

Moore was located by officers on Starlite Drive on Alcoa Highway after the 911 dispatchers were provided with his description by the victim.
