A 21-year-old Memphis man has been found guilty of child pornography charges in DeSoto County, Mississippi, marking a significant legal prosecution in the battle against exploitation of children. WREG reports that Antonio Alston, Jr. was convicted this week, according to Desoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton. Alston was caught in possession of files containing sexually explicit images of minors, with some victims as young as seven.

It was during the jury selection process that the conviction was secured, reflecting an unequivocal assertion by law enforcement on the gravity of these charges. The evidence presented to the court confirmed Alston's involvement in the sale of such images on platforms including Reddit and through monetary transactions using Cashapp. Barton emphasized his office's resolve, saying, "Pedophilia and the individuals who commit such heinous acts are intolerable, and my office is committed to prosecuting these crimes to the fullest extent of the law," in a statement obtained by Action News 5.

The case against Alston developed from cyber tips received by the Hernando Police Department in 2023, courtesy of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). These tips were instrumental in unraveling a total of 67 cyber tips linked to an IP address associated with Alston, narrating a digital trail of his illicit activities.

Notably, this is not Alston's first brush with law enforcement concerning similar allegations. Although previously investigated by the Memphis Police Department for related offenses, he had not been prosecuted or arrested until now. "It is regrettable that Memphis failed to indict this predator, but our officers and prosecutors stepped in and ensured that he is no longer a member of society," Barton told DeSoto County News. The oversight by the Memphis authorities has been squarely addressed by the DeSoto County conviction.

Sentencing for Alston is scheduled today. Circuit Court Judge Gerald Chatham, Sr. will preside over the sentencing phase.
