A Memphis court has rendered a verdict in a harrowing case involving the death of a young woman and her unborn child. Joshua Dotson, 24, was found guilty of committing two counts of first-degree murder. The convictions stem from the June 2020 shooting of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Jamesha Covson, at her Quinn Avenue residence, as Action News 5 reported.

According to authorities, an argument escalated into gun violence after Covson and Dotson argued over a Facebook post and her pregnancy, leading to Dotson firing shots into Covson's home. according to FOX13, citing an attorney for Dotson, disclosed that the jury reached its decision yesterday, following a trial that saw jury selection commence just Monday.

During the trial, the jury heard testimonies from at least ten witnesses who played a part in piecing together the fatal events of that day. After shooting through the door and striking Covson, she was rushed to the hospital where both she and the unborn child were pronounced dead. WREG reports that Dotson now awaits sentencing.

In a tragic revelation, it was found that Dotson had posted a tribute to Covson on his Facebook page mere hours after the shooting, an attempt to mourn her publicly while masking his role in the crime. "Fly high," he wrote, an expression of grief incongruous with his violent actions earlier. Details were also shared regarding Dotson’s criminal history, including a previous indictment on an aggravated robbery charge in 2018 and a subsequent plea to a lesser robbery charge in 2019, which had afforded him a spot in a diversion program, according to FOX13.
