Memphis Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place early this morning in Binghampton. The area of Summer Avenue and North Hollywood Street became the scene of the crime shortly after 2 a.m., as reported by Action News 5. While details were initially sparse, further reports have begun to shed light on the violence that unfolded.
According to WREG, officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Hollywood Street and Summer Avenue just after the 2 o'clock hour, to collect more information surrounding the incident. As of now, the condition of the victim remains undisclosed, and authorities continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting.
In a separate but related account, a man suffering from gunshot wounds sought help from a patrolling officer in the vicinity. FOX13 Memphis detailed the victim's encounter with the law enforcement official, stating that the injured party exited a sedan and communicated to the officer that he had been shot. Despite the officer's instructions to the driver to remain on the scene, the vehicle fled, leaving the wounded man behind.
"The man told investigators he was shot on the 800 block of North Merton Street, which was about a half-mile north of where he found the officer," according to the Memphis Police Department, per FOX13 Memphis. A witness at the location described hearing approximately 10 gunshots and believed the Mercedes parked nearby was the target. Shell casings and blood evidence discovered on North Merton Street corroborated the account of the events leading to the man's injuries. He has been hospitalized in critical condition.
