In what appears to be a bold act of doorstep theft, the Memphis Police Department is on the lookout for a porch pirate accused of snatching packages from Memphis Tigers Basketball coach, Penny Hardaway's residence. The incident, which unfolded on August 8, reportedly involved a suspect making away with goods in a shopping cart; these images were caught on camera and later released by authorities seeking the public's assistance.
According to Action News 5, the unidentified male was last seen struggling with a cart-laden with Hardaway’s parcels along Goodwyn Street and Central Avenue, making the feat more conspicuous yet, no arrest has been made as of now. Hardaway has expressed particular dismay at the theft, as among the items taken were exclusive "family and friend" sneakers not available in stores, with WREG reporting that 26 pairs of these "one-of-a-kind" foamposites were pilfered.
Catching the thief will not only recover Hardaway's belongings but also help deter others from committing similar bold thefts, which has shocked the local community with students like Brian Jones calling the situation "crazy," obtained by FOX13 Memphis from another student who noted the ubiquity of porch pirates.
