The Memphis Police Department has released video footage in an attempt to identify a suspect vehicle connected with a deadly shooting outside James Lounge on August 14, 2024. The released footage shows a grey or silver SUV driving by the intersection of Hillcrest and Summer, according to Action News 5. Gunfire from the vehicle resulted in three individuals being shot, with two fatalities reported at the scene.
In response to the shooting, District Attorney Steve Mulroy urgently requested that the establishment take immediate action towards reducing crime, suggesting enhancements such as upgraded security measures. As reported by Local Memphis, the District Attorney warned that the club could be declared a public nuisance and face closure if these steps were not promptly taken.
Two men were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, while another was transported to Regional One Health in critical condition, as stated by the Memphis Police Department. After the chaos that ensued following the shooting, a Local Memphis photographer described the scene as "chaotic," observing multiple ambulances departing with victims and visible damage to the establishment and vehicles nearby.
