A licensed mental health counselor has been taken into custody in connection with a human trafficking operation, according to Miami-Dade Police Department’s Organized Crime Bureau, Human Trafficking Squad. The arrest came after law enforcement responded to an altercation at a Miami hotel earlier this week.

On August 18, Kendal District Officers went to a hotel at 7600 SW 88 Street after a dispute. The investigation found that on August 13, Maria Ximena Duarte approached a 15-year-old girl walking her dog, pretending to be a psychologist. Duarte allegedly offered the girl drugs and alcohol and pressured her into recording and participating in sexual acts with Jason Mojica. Both Duarte and Mojica are now facing charges, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

The victim has disclosed to investigators the distressing details of the encounter. She claims she was forced at one point to engage in sex acts against her will, and recorded during others. These incidents took place after she was allegedly given substances by Duarte that would impair her judgment and ability to consent.

Miami-Dade authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged crimes. The charges against Duarte and Mojica highlight the seriousness of the accusations. The Miami-Dade Police Department has not released more details about their arrest.
