On Sept. 5, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., residents are invited to celebrate the major expansion of Red Mountain Park at 7745 E. Brown Road, as per an announcement from the city officials. A schedule packed with activities like soccer, tee-ball featuring the Oakland Athletics, adaptive bocce ball, and lacrosse promises a lively event, accompanied by complimentary snacks.
As Mayor John Giles put it, "Mesa's parks are a point of pride in Mesa, and the expansion of Red Mountain Park showcases the dedication and vision of our residents." The enhancement of the park after the 2018 voter-approved Parks Bond, aims to foster community spirit, with offerings like 10 new multi-use fields, and four baseball/softball fields featuring MuscoVision tech for live streaming, a boon for those who can't catch the games live. The upgrades to the city's recreational spaces underscore a blend of modern entertainment and communal interaction, and Giles can't hide his excitement for the days ahead.
The investment in Red Mountain Park encompasses more than just new playing fields—environmental considerations have been incorporated as well. The turf will demand less water, and perimeter landscaping will require minimal irrigation, aligning with Mesa's water-conscious efforts. Not to be outdone are the energy-efficient LED lights, cut out to reduce glare and conserve power. Mayor Giles' "Trees are Cool" Initiative gets a healthy nod here too, with the transplantation and addition of trees aiming for a greener Mesa by 2050.
