Miami's Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) announced that Schneider St. Preux, the current General Superintendent for Bus Operations, has been selected for the nationally recognized Leadership APTA program. St. Preux will join a cohort of 35 professionals, hand-picked for a training initiative targeting the cultivation of future leaders in the public transportation sector. The year-long program will expose him to a variety of learning methods, including workshops, executive forums, and web-based events. St. Preux's acceptance into this prestigious program is a milestone, not only for him but also for the DTPW, as mentioned on a press release from the Miami-Dade County's official website.
St. Preux has quickly risen from a bus operator to upper management since 2012. He now oversees a large transit system with a $195 million budget and nearly 1,900 positions.
"The entire team at DTPW commends Schneider on this accomplishment which I feel is a positive reflection on the entire department and where we are headed as an organization. He is an exemplar of our drive for safety, excellence and to become the world’s best provider of transportation options," Eulois Cleckley, DTPW’s director and CEO, stated, as per the official announcement from Miami-Dade County's press release. Schneider St. Preux, expressing his gratitude, said, "I am extremely honored and humbled to have been selected to this program. It’s certainly a career and personal highlight. However, it’s also new chapter in my work in this critical industry and my hope is to use everything I learn and gain for the benefit of the department and, most importantly, our riders."
DTPW operates one of the largest and most dynamic transit systems in the U.S., featuring an extensive emissions-free bus fleet and services like Metrorail, Metromover, and the upcoming South Dade TransitWay BRT system set to launch in 2025. St. Preux’s role highlights the need for strong leadership in public transit. His involvement in the Leadership APTA program will further support the department’s focus on innovation. Miami residents can stay updated by signing up for transit alerts or following DTPW on social media.
