The official report by the Gwinnett County Police from August 2 provided a brief description of Mr. Pettis: a white male weighing 160 pounds, standing five feet seven inches tall, with recognizable hazel eyes and gray hair, and a notable "Erie" tattoo on his wrist.
Authorities made a concerted effort following the initial report by Mr. Pettis' family, who voiced their concerns after he vanished without a trace near the 5000 block of Suwanee Dam Road, and his safety was paramount as community members joined in the search.
