Evanston, Illinois, has seen a spate of gun-related incidents last week, leading to multiple arrests and charges. A Chicago man named Christopher Davis, 38 has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after an incident on Aug. 5, where two men aged 41 and 50 were shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. Following the shooting, Davis was apprehended while driving a Volvo near the scene, with police spotting a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun on the rear driver’s side floorboard.
According to CBS News Chicago, officers detained Davis but he was released pending further investigation, which included a search warrant for the vehicle and recovery of the handgun, Davis, after the shots were fired was allegedly witnessed with a black handgun similar to the one recovered—and while he was not charged with shooting the gun investigators believe he attempted to hide it from the law enforcement, Davis stands accused and is being detained at the Cook County Jail as of Wednesday.
Another man involved with the Aug. 5 shooting is Sean Gayle, 41, who was wounded and has been charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. The Chicago Tribune states that Gayle was one of the shooting victims of the quarrel that led to gunfire. Moreover, following these events on the subsequent day, Aug. 6, Jerell Williams, 33, was charged with attempted first-degree murder in a separate incident that resulted in a man sustaining a gunshot wound to his thigh on the same block.
