A shooting in Nashville has left 23-year-old Brandon Calloway dead, an incident that unfolded on the evening of Saturday. As reported by WSMV, Metro Nashville Police Department officers responded to a call at 3720 Brickmont Drive around 9:17 p.m. following reports of the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Calloway with a chest wound, with life-saving efforts being performed by his girlfriend.

According to statements made by the victim's girlfriend to police and reported by The Tennessean, she had lost her house key and was waiting outside for Calloway to let her in. It was during this time that an unidentified assailant fired through the rear door, striking Calloway. In a reflex of defense, the girlfriend returned fire as the perpetrator fled.
Brandon Calloway was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
