A Nashville man has been arrested in connection to the vandalism of a rainbow crosswalk in East Nashville, an act that occurred shortly after the end of Pride month. Police apprehended 24-year-old Isaiah D. Tester, accused of pouring black paint-like liquid over the crosswalk on July 2nd. The incident occurred at the intersection of South 14th and Woodland Streets, which had been painted as a symbol of LGBTQ pride and inclusivity.

According to FOX 17, a tip to Nashville Crime Stoppers was instrumental in quickly identifying Tester as the suspect. It appears that Tester was employed by a vehicle window replacement company at the time and used one of the company's vans during the act of vandalism. Evidence suggests that he used a windshield prep primer to deface the crosswalk. Following a confrontation with a coworker regarding the incident, Tester admitted to the wrongdoing and was subsequently terminated.

WSMV reported that the tester's alleged confession came during an interview with detectives. He was taken into custody in Murfreesboro, where he resides, on charges of vandalizing government property. The Nashville community has since repaired and repainted the damaged crosswalk in a show of resilience and community spirit.

The incident drew condemnation from the local government, with the LGBTQ Caucus of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County issuing a statement. "We are deeply appreciative of the collaboration that led to the apprehension of the suspect. We want to assure the public that we are committed to safeguarding every aspect of the city’s beautification efforts and will not tolerate any form of hatred towards Nashville’s diverse and vibrant community", Councilwoman Emily Benedict, Chair of the LGBTQ Caucus, said, as per WSMV.
