Nashville police have successfully apprehended one of the city's most wanted suspects, James Briggs, in connection with a home burglary that took a dangerously wrong turn last month. The arrest occurred on South Street and was conducted by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division. Briggs, age 27, is charged with a slew of offenses, including aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, felony weapon possession, and six counts of reckless endangerment.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the Hendersonville native is alleged to have forcefully entered a Sylvan Street apartment on July 25 by removing the air conditioning unit from a bedroom window at around 1:30 a.m. It was then that Briggs purportedly opened fire on an occupant in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity. The bullets did not hit the intended target, who managed to quickly inform Briggs that his family, including four young grandchildren, were also present in the home.
In a moment of confusion, the victim heard Briggs shout "wrong house, wrong house" to an accomplice outside the window before both suspects hastily fled the scene. The second suspect, identified as 33-year-old Elijah Kodjo, remains at large and is wanted on warrants for aggravated burglary and aggravated assault. MNPD is actively seeking information on Kodjo's location and encourages anyone with relevant tips to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
The arrest brings some relief to the community as Briggs now awaits legal proceedings, held on a $195,000 bond. Still, the hunt for his alleged partner intensifies as the police work to ensure both are held accountable.
