Construction is now underway for the Strong Family Apartments located at the bustling intersection of N Alberta St. & N Williams Ave in Portland's Humboldt neighborhood. According to the Portland Housing Bureau, the development spearheaded by Community Development Partners and Self Enhancement, Inc. will provide a mix of 75 affordable housing units, with options ranging from 1 to 3 bedrooms to accommodate diverse family needs.
The project recently achieved a critical milestone with the conclusion of financing arrangements, allowing the commencement of construction activities. Notably, 11 of these units will be deeply affordable aimed at households earning below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI), the remaining will cater to households earning at 60% AMI. Holst has been selected as the architect, while Colas Construction will serve as the general contractor for this endeavor.
Anchored by a commitment to community enhancement and supported by the Metro Housing Bond, the Strong Family Apartments exceed Portland's demand for affordable housing. In fact, this bond is touted to add over 2,046 affordable homes throughout the city, outstripping its initial housing goals—and all based on a public mandate with a nod from the city's voters for such initiatives.
The construction aligns with the N/NE Preference Policy, designed to prevent displacement by giving rental preference to individuals and families with historical ties to the neighborhood. Planned amenities for the Strong Family Apartments include a courtyard, playground, a community room, and most importantly, resident services that enrich community living.
