The City of Newnan just put the finishing touches on its latest push for inclusivity—a brand new ADA playground. Nestled within the friendly confines of Sprayberry Park at 60 Sprayberry Road, the playground is designed to accommodate children of all abilities.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony went down yesterday, with the ever-enthusiastic Mayor Brady leading the celebration. The Mayor made a point to applaud the dedicated efforts of the city's citizens, City Manager Cleatus Phillips, and Beautification Director Mike Furbush, for steering the helm of this project, Mayor Brady didn't miss the chance to highlight the sage advice from Lori Whitney, Director of Hoping Forward, which apparently, was instrumental in the playground's creation.
According to the City of Newnan's announcement, the concept of an ADA-compliant playground first emerged in early 2023, with discussions leading to a design and installation process that spanned several months. The playground is more than swings and slides, it's a statement of integration, as Mayor Brady described, "This park is an important part of what we're doing to engage all of our citizens in the City of Newnan."
Newnan's new playground is designed for accessibility, ensuring all children can play together. As Mayor Brady stated, it is "a welcoming and inclusive space for differently-abled children.", as reported by the City of Newnan's website.
