Tragedy struck in the Almond Park area of northwest Atlanta yesterday afternoon, where a double shooting left one man dead and another wounded. The Atlanta Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 1:30 p.m. along the 2200 block of Hill Street NW, as stated by FOX 5 Atlanta. On arrival, officers discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds.
One victim, a 21-year-old man from Douglasville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and is reportedly to be in stable condition. "The male that's at Grady went and knocked on the door for help and that homeowner called 911," detailed Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Andrew Smith. In an interview with FOX 5 News, a neighbor recounted the moments of urgency, saying, "I kind of bust my door open and I was talking to him, and I was like, ‘I’m calling 911. Are you OK?’ And he was just saying he was shot, he was shot in the chest, in the arm, or what have you."
Investigators are still determining the reasons behind the shooting and the connection between the two men. Lt. Smith mentioned that they were not yet clear of the relationship and added, "but believe the shooting was not random." Further efforts to understand the events leading up to this deadly altercation are underway. "Homicide investigators are working and processing and collecting video from the area as we speak," Lt. Smith disclosed to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Police have yet to identify any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the incident. They continue to probe the neighborhood, collecting evidence that may clarify the details of this crime. Inquiries about whether there were other individuals involved remain unanswered as the investigation proceeds. According to coverage by Atlanta News First, officers found the men after being called to a residence on Hill Street, which is now a scene cordoned off by the yellow tape of law enforcement's vigilant guard.
