Orlando locals are gearing up for another sweltering day as the city remains under a Heat Advisory. Escalating temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid-90s by this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Residents are advised to prepare for heat index values that are expected to soar between 105-109 degrees across east central Florida, posing a Moderate to Major Heat Risk.
For those looking to enjoy a bit of outdoor aviation, mainly VFR conditions will prevail. However, some MVFR stratus may be present through 13Z. Winds are forecast to pick up, reaching 8-12 knots with occasional gusts up to 18 knots. Although scattered thunderstorms are predicted to cross the peninsula later in the day, these could potentially offer some much-needed relief from the relentless heat.
Boaters should be aware that the western Atlantic ridge is gradually extending northward, accounting for the southwest flow of around 8-12 knots each afternoon. While no warnings are currently in place for aquatic enthusiasts, the forecast suggests a persistent sea of around 2-3 feet. "Scattered showers and isolated lightning storms are forecast across the waters each afternoon with some coverage lingering into the evening and overnight hours," as reported by the National Weather Service.
As we roll into the weekend, a transition back to a more summertime pattern is on the cards with the ridge axis of the western Atlantic high lifting northward. This will seemingly confine the east coast sea breeze on Saturday, but come Sunday, it's expected to push further inland. Such conditions will likely support scattered to numerous showers and scattered lightning storms in the afternoons. Despite the shift, high temperatures are stubbornly set to hover in the low to mid-90s.
