Crews responded to the scene near Plant Street at 7:22 p.m., and FOX 35 reported three cloud-to-ground strikes in the area between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, Orange County Fire Rescue assisted Winter Garden Fire Rescue with the medical emergency response, and both patients were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Officials have not confirmed whether the couple was directly struck by lightning or injured in some other way during the incident, and their conditions were not immediately available as of the station's report.

The decision to transport both patients as trauma alerts reflects the seriousness of the emergency. Trauma alerts are intended to expedite care for patients with serious injuries. Official Orange County Parks and Recreation rules keep the trail open only from sunrise to sunset and urge users to carry mobile phones so they can track fast-changing weather and reach emergency services during summer storms, guidance that carries added weight given the 7:13 p.m. timing of Wednesday's strike.

On August 21, a family walking near Lake Baldwin in nearby Winter Park was hospitalized after lightning struck about 20 feet away, disrupting a heart device and causing severe neurological symptoms. That earlier case, along with Wednesday's incident, highlights the dangers associated with lightning.
