
A tragic car accident in Lafayette County has claimed the life of a 19-year-old from Oxford, as the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders discovered an overturned vehicle submerged in a pond, according to WREG. The accident, believed to have occurred overnight, was first reported to authorities on Sunday at approximately 11:39 a.m., with emergency teams rushing to the scene on private property where the car was found.
Upon their arrival, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, alongside the Lafayette County Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, and Baptist Ambulance Service, worked in conjunction to retrieve the vehicle, wherein they discovered the body of Gray Cassidy, who was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident units from multiple departments were dispatched to the location and after retrieving the vehicle from the water, Cassidy was identified and confirmed dead as reported by Action News 5.
While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, the Lafayette County Sheriff, Joey East, extended his condolences, stating, "This is a heartbreaking situation for our community," and emphasized community support for the family and friends of the young individual during this challenging time, as noted by FOX13 Memphis.
