A Peoria man, Tyruis Bramlett, age 22, was handed a 58-month prison sentence on August 8, for the illegal possession of firearms by a felon, and for his violation of federal supervised release conditions. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of Illinois, Bramlett is required to follow this confinement with a three-year term of supervised release.
The case, laid out before U.S. District Judge James E. Shadid, developed after incidents in July 2023 involving a red SUV connected to several shots-fired incidents in Peoria, Illinois. On locating this SUV, reported as stolen out of Kalamazoo, Michigan, officers took Bramlett and two others into custody, uncovering two loaded 9mm handguns, both equipped with high-capacity extended magazines, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of Illinois. The firearms were previously reported as stolen and investigators found the SUV riddled with bullet holes. Bramlett had already been prohibited from gun possession stemming from a 2021 conviction for stealing firearms from a gun store and was under federal supervised release at the time of his latest offense.
The sentencing tallies up to 58 months—46 for the gun charges and an additional 12 for the violations of his supervised release, as detailed by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of Illinois. These charges were the result of diligent work by the Peoria Area Federal Firearms Task Force, which includes members of various law enforcement agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and local and state police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald L. Hanna led the prosecution.
