Reaccreditation is a process that does not simply happen overnight. It is a testament to the museum's tireless efforts in maintaining its integrity, enhancing accessibility, fortifying its public service role, and climbing ever upward the rigorous steps of good governance and ethical conduct.
Following the Phoenix Point of Pride, the AAM's Accreditation Program is designed to comprehensively judge a museum's performance against its stated mission and goals. It also to firmly evaluate whether a museum's operations meet or even surpass the field's standards and best practices, tailored to each museum's specific circumstances. The S'edav Va'aki Museum, through its self-study and subsequent peer review, has proved itself worthy of this benchmark of excellence, placing it among the prestigious echelon of the nation's 1,112 accredited museums.
The accreditation process began with the museum conducting a thorough self-study. This step required the museum staff to dig deep into the institution's operations—be it finances, administration, facility maintenance, archives, artifact collections, exhibits, interpretation, or guest services. Information gathered served as a transparent look into the museum's inner workings and was crucial for the following steps in the accreditation.
Following the self-study, two AAM representatives took the challenge to significantly partake in an in-person peer-review visit during April. This visit allowed the representatives to probe further into the information submitted, ensuring nothing but a critical and evaluative eye was cast over the museum's operations. After this review, the Accreditation Commission undertook the task to painstakingly evaluate all the amassed evidence before making the official decision to grant accreditation— a decision that is neither taken lightly nor given without deserving merit.
