The distinguished S'edav Va'aki Museum in Phoenix has once again secured its place among the elite institutions of its kind, with the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) bestowing upon it the honor of reaccreditation. According to the museum's announcement, the reaccreditation is a resounding validation of the museum's quality, credibility, and the value it offers to stakeholders ranging from funders and policymakers to insurers and the community it serves.
Since achieving its initial accreditation in 1971, the S'edav Va'aki Museum has worked assiduously to maintain the standards set forth by the AAM—standards that encompass public service, governance, and the care of collections held in public trust; accreditation by the AAM is predicated on two primary inquiries: does the museum fulfill its stated mission and goals, and does its performance align with the widely accepted best practices of the field as they are seen to be appropriate to the institution's particular circumstance. These questions are integral to the accreditation process, which begins with a self-study conducted by museum staff who scrutinize and report on all internal operations ranging from finance and administration to facility maintenance and guest services.
Following the comprehensive self-study, two seasoned peer reviewers from AAM conducted an onsite visit last April to delve deeper into the museum’s affairs, a crucial step in a rigorous and multi-layered review process. The Accreditation Commission, entrusted with the final say, evaluated the findings from the visit alongside the self-assessment to determine the museum's alignment with the high bar set by the field's standards before awarding reaccreditation.
The AAM's accolade elevates the S'edav Va'aki Museum to an even more prestigious ranking within the cultural landscape, marking it as one among a select 1,112 institutions to achieve this recognition against the backdrop of approximately 33,000 museums nationwide.
With the phoenix of accreditation rising once more, the S'edav Va'aki Museum beckons guests and peers to acknowledge its esteemed position in the museum field, underscored by the hashtags #Sedavvaaki, #Museum, #MyPHX #MyPhoenix, #AAM, and #Accreditation as a Phoenix Point of Pride.
