Pinecrest police are on the hunt for a bold porch pirate following a theft from a local firefighter's home, an incident illuminated by security footage – revealing the thief confidently approaching and fleeing the scene in a green pickup truck. In the footage, captured in broad daylight, the culprit is seen taking packages containing $60 worth of items, including essential school supplies, from Donovan Cluff's home as his wife was present inside the property, Local10 reported.

Cluff, a Palm Beach County firefighter, expressed his dismay saying, "You feel like someone has invaded your privacy when they walk right up to your front door and steal something," and pointing out the irony of such a violation occurring while he serves the community. The thief, nonchalant in his crime, possibly followed the delivery truck to time his theft, with a getaway in a grey Jeep Gladiator, was later immortalized through the eyewitness account of a video, which Cluff hopes will expedite his apprehension.

Authorities, including Pinecrest police Capt. Ivan Osores, have called on the public's scrutiny, particularly regarding a distinct tattoo on the left forearm of the perpetrator, hopeful that this clue will help in identifying the suspect. "In this case it seems like the driver, the offender, was following the Amazon truck," Osores told Local10, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and the critical role it plays in the quick apprehension of such individuals.

The incident has resonated with neighbors, as they too have shared experiences of package thefts – which adds a layer of urgency to the search, the Pinecrest Police have been working diligently scanning surrounding surveillance, including red light cameras, in hopes of closing in on the suspect, as relayed by Cluff during an interview with WSVN. Cluff says, "I am very thankful to Pinecrest Police Department. I know it is unfortunately a common, petty crime, but if you don’t do anything to stop it it is only going to get worse so hopefully they find him."

Residents are encouraged to take preventive measures against porch piracy; such measures include using alternate delivery locations, requiring a signature for delivery, or employing a lockbox for parcels. Additionally, the community is reminded to report any suspicious behavior, like vehicles tailing delivery trucks, a step that could be crucial in deterring and solving such crimes. Those with any pertinent information relating to the case are urged to reach out to Pinecrest police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
