The Pittsburg Police Department has been actively working on a case since the night of July 4th when officers were dispatched following a shooting near W. 10th Street and West Street, where they discovered the victim, Markel Benson-Braggs; despite attempts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. In the days following the incident, Pittsburg detectives identified several suspects, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.
On July 12th, investigators made their first move, apprehending two suspects, Rohney Stewart, aged 27, and Jaylaun Stewart, aged 21, found in Rodeo. As the police continued to track down the perpetrators involved in this crime, the department's commitment to justice was clear when, early yesterday morning, with assistance from Central County SWAT and the FBI, the execution of search warrants at three more locations led to further arrests. They netted three additional individuals: Israel Dezama (26), Maxamillion Holiday (21), and Abraham Gomez (21); the operation also yielded crucial evidence related to the case.
The investigation into this tragic event is still ongoing, and the case will be submitted to the Contra Costa County District Attorney for review and potential prosecution.
