A Port St. Lucie man has found himself in a tangle of law enforcement after a pair of driving incidents last week. The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) was called to the scene of a minor traffic crash at the St. Lucie West K-8 parent pickup line on August 22nd at approximately 3:16 PM. CBS12 reports that the driver, Brian Hicks, 42, appeared to be under the influence and attempted to flee the location.

In a series of events that put parents and children at unease, a School Resource Deputy with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office intervened, detaining the seemingly intoxicated Hicks. Arriving on the scene, PSLPD took custody of him.

It was later uncovered by authorities that this incident was not Hicks' initial brush with vehicular mayhem that day. According to the post by Port St. Lucie PD on X, Hicks had previously fled from another hit-and-run crash at the junction of SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard and SW Gatlin Boulevard just before causing the disturbance at the school.

Hicks now faces a slew of charges: DUI with Damage to Property of Another, a fourth or subsequent DUI offense, and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher. He was also charged with two counts of hit and run with property damage, driving while his license was suspended for the third or subsequent violation, and driving while his license is revoked – also for the third or subsequent violation.
