Nettleton was found with a fatal gunshot wound on August 30, 2019, after the Portland Police Bureau responded to a shooting on Southeast 174th Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard.
Nettleton's mother, Chamberlin, expressed her frustration and the difficulty of understanding how the case remains unsolved despite the presence of a surviving eyewitness. "It’s been really challenging to try to understand how and why, when we have a surviving eyewitness to that evening, that we’re five years out and still have no answers," Chamberlin conveyed in a statement, as detailed by KPTV. The family is tormented by the notion that Nettleton was simply "at the wrong place at the wrong time," when, as Chamberlin stresses, her daughter was in her residence when the incident occurred.
The tragedy impacted not just Nettleton's immediate family, but also her young son, King, who was present during the incident but was unharmed. Chamberlin, as KPTV quoted, expressed relief in knowing her grandson was safe, stating, "King was there the night before, and so I am profoundly grateful that he’s safe." This small consolation does little to ease the broader uncertainty that surrounds the night Logan Nettleton’s life was abruptly ended.
Chamberlin is also burdened by the prospect of one day explaining the circumstances of his mother's death to King, who is now 9 years old. "The biggest thing is trying to figure out what to tell King," she told KGW.
