A Portland man is currently in custody on multiple charges, including rape and sodomy, after an 18-year-old woman reported a sexual assault that occurred after the two met on an online dating application. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the assault took place late Friday night, August 9, and the victim sought help from a nearby resident who contacted 911. In a detailed account to officers, the victim stated that Damani J. Anderson, 18, had threatened to use force in order to engage in sexual activities against her will. The authorities have provided the necessary medical assistance to the survivor while an investigation, led by the PPB's Sex Crimes Unit, unfolded rapidly.
With the Portland Police Bureau diligently tracing leads, Anderson was apprehended just six days after the alleged incident. Yesterday, Anderson was located by U.S. Marshals and was taken into custody without incident. The apprehension occurred at a residence in North Swift Way, leading authorities to believe that they have managed to swiftly bring in the alleged perpetrator before any further incidents could unfold.
The list of charges lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center paints a grave picture: Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, Kidnapping in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The Portland Police Bureau is actively seeking to determine if there have been additional instances of assault connected to the accused, according to their official website.
As investigations continue, the PPB is urging any potential victims or individuals with information about Anderson's actions to reach out. The Sex Crimes Unit is poised to conduct thorough investigations into any additional claims.
