In a decisive operation against the rogue phenomenon of street takeovers and illegal street racing, Portland police have wrapped up a significant suppression effort that has been underway since this weekend. The Portland Police Bureau announced the outcome of a mission that curtailed potential street races, resulting in multiple arrests and scores of traffic stops.
The enforcement drive, which stretched from the afternoon into the early evening, kept additional street takeovers from sparking up. Proactive patrols and high-visibility policing strategies were effectively implemented, with preliminary counts showing at least 41 traffic stops, 23 citations, 7 vehicles towed, and 4 arrests. These figures could rise as more reports are finalized. Among the interventions was the arrest of 20-year-old Rowan W. Bauschard from Portland, nabbed for reckless driving after being spotted skidding at the intersection of Southeast 2nd Avenue and Southeast Morrison Street.
Other notable incidents include the stop of a silver Toyota Supra, found driving without plates by mission officers. An 18-year-old driver from Gresham was cited for lacking insurance and saw their car towed away. Additionally, police thwarted an attempt by racers to shift their activities to Troutdale. This led to the arrest of Nathaniel Lummus, 23, on firearm possession charges after being pulled over in Gresham.
In Damascus, where the racers attempted to regroup, coordination between Portland Police and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office proved effective. One traffic stop led to the discovery of an open alcohol container and multiple warrants for the passenger, Christopher Alejandres-Soriano, 24, of McMinnville. This led to his transportation to the Clackamas County jail.
