Wes Scantlin, known as the frontman of the popular rock band Puddle of Mudd, found himself in a precarious situation with law enforcement last week, resulting in an arrest following a police standoff. According to a report by KTLA, the incident occurred in Burbank, California, and involved a negotiation by SWAT team members. Scantlin was ultimately charged with resisting arrest and possessing a weapon at an airport.
The Burbank Police Department, as reported by KTLA, detailed that the confrontation began after officers pulled Scantlin over for a traffic violation. Discovered with a previous warrant related to alleged weapon possession at an airport, police asked Scantlin to leave his vehicle, in which he had decisively barricaded himself.
Efforts made to remove Scantlin from his car involved deploying pepper spray, which, according to the authorities, proved unsuccessful. As detailed by TMZ, a crisis negotiator was brought in, but even with their intervention, Scantlin remained in his vehicle. This turn of events led to the deployment of a SWAT team and the use of "non-lethal pepper balls" to end the standoff, culminating at around 4:00 AM.
Following the altercation, Scantlin was transported to a hospital to have his eyes flushed from the effects of the pepper balls, but reports indicate he was okay after the incident. He was subsequently booked at the jail for the outstanding warrant and the new charge of resisting arrest, and afterwards cited and released, "with a court date set for August 20," as indicated by TMZ.
Scantlin and Puddle of Mudd ascended to fame in the early 2000s with hits such as 'Blurry' and 'She Hates Me', but this incident adds to a history of run-ins with the law for the singer. Over the past decade, Billboard has noted multiple arrests, including those for driving under the influence and vandalism. Moreover, in 2017, Scantlin had an incident involving an attempt to board a flight with a BB gun, as reported by TMZ.
