Last night, a vegetation fire ignited on the northbound side of California State Route 85, which was reported via a 9-1-1 call. After receiving the emergency call at 7:30 p.m., firefighting units were dispatched a minute later. They arrived at the scene by 7:39 p.m. and found a 50’ x 100’ blaze that was tearing through the Santa Clara Valley Water property toward Stevens Creek and inching dangerously close to the homes on Robin Way. The City of Mountain View reports that no injuries resulted from the incident.
The fire spread quickly and was met with a swift response from firefighters, who executed a progressive hose-lay strategy that limited the burn to about an acre. Despite the fire making its way into the creek, the firefighters' efforts were able to prevent it from causing any damage to homes or other private property in the surrounding area.
Crews stayed behind to mop up the scene, ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished and posed no further threat to the nearby residential properties. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are ongoing.
