If convicted, Saget could face a mandatory minimum of five years to up to 20 years in jail for the transportation charge, coupled with fines reaching $250,000. The possession charge carries its weight with up to 20 years of incarceration and the possibility of a lifetime of supervised release, along with fines that could also max out at $250,000. These penalties will be determined by a federal district court judge in accordance with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant laws.

The announcement of Saget's arrest came from Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy together with Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England, the assistance in the investigation, it was provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Sullivan of the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at tackling the growing crisis of child exploitation.
