Heads up, Marietta pie enthusiasts! If you've got a craving for pumpkin pie and a competitive edge, you're in luck. The City of Marietta has announced that registration is officially open for its 4th Annual Pie Eating Contest. Slated to be held at this year's HarvestFest on October 19, the competition invites locals to not just savor the seasonal dessert, but to devour it as swiftly as possible in front of an audience. According to the city's website, Pie Bar of Marietta is partnering with the event and will provide the 8" round Pumpkin Pies for contenders. What's more, winners can look forward to claiming Grand Prize and 1-3rd Place Prizes in each age category.
The battle of the pies will take place at Glover Park on Marietta Square at 11:30 AM, conveniently before the Halloween Happenings kick off. There's no fee to enter, but pie gladiators must be at least 6 years old to throw their hat into the ring. The city classifies participants into two divisions: 'Mini Munchers' for ages 6-12 and 'Competitive Chompers' for those 13 and above. As a word of caution, entrants are advised to consider any potential food allergens or dietary restrictions before signing up. An ingredient list is provided to ensure participants are aware of what they'll be consuming in their pursuit of pie-eating glory.
For those interested in joining the fray, a visit to the official event page is in order. Signing up can be quickly accomplished through a link provided in the Civic Alert posted by the City of Marietta. There you can also find additional details about the event including the full list of pie ingredients which boasts classics like Canned Pumpkin, Cinnamon, and Allspice along with all-purpose flour, eggs, light brown sugar, salt, evaporated milk, unsalted butter, graham cracker crumbles, heavy cream, vanilla, and powdered sugar. It’s all part of ensuring participants are fully informed when they choose to partake.
This annual event is more than a display of gustatory skill—it's a celebration of community and seasonal tradition. Winners or not, participants get to be part of a cherished HarvestFest activity while onlookers cheer on their neighbors in what's been described as a fiercely fun and equally sweet competition. So, if you're willing to potentially get a little messy and a lot full, make your move now to secure a spot in Marietta's tribute to the humble pie. Just remember, spots may fill faster than you can eat a slice, so don't hesitate too long to register your interest.
