The Richmond Police Department recently announced the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted robbery. A routine patrol on Wednesday became the turning point in a case that had been unresolved since mid-August. Officers Wally and Ecker, employing the Flock License Plate Recognition system, spotted the individual behind the wheel. The system was integral in confirming the suspect's vehicle, which had been tied to a previous crime, as per the Richmond Police Department.
The incident that led to the use of Flock dates back to August 14, when an attempted robbery was reported in the 200 block of 28th and Nicholl at about 11:30 AM. A perpetrator had tried to forcibly take a victim's purse by smashing the passenger window of their car while they were inside. Though the suspect quickly fled the scene, the Flock system accurately identified the suspect's vehicle.
After the initial identification, the officers safely conducted a traffic stop, arresting the suspect without incident. The post-arrest procedures were followed swiftly, with the vehicle secured by the authorities and the suspect facing booking procedures at the RPD jail.
