A serious injury collision occurred yesterday in the Swan Canyon neighborhood of San Diego, involving a homebuilt gasoline-powered pocket bike and an SUV. The San Diego Police Department's Watch Commander's Log reported that the incident occurred at Thorn Street and Chamoune Avenue.
The 27-year-old male rider was heading eastbound on Thorn Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign properly. Subsequently, the rider entered the path of a northbound 2016 Lexus SUV driven by a 57-year-old female, resulting in a collision. According to the SDPD, the rider was not wearing a helmet and, regrettably, sustained serious head injuries. He was immediately transported to the hospital and, fortunately, is not currently facing life-threatening injuries. Additionally, it was noted that DUI was a factor in this incident.
Traffic Division officers responded to the scene to investigate the serious injury collision. The authorities have encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They can do so by contacting the SDPD or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, as detailed on the San Diego government website.
As the investigation continues, the SDPD has not yet released further information about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the current condition of the rider.
