The Bexar County community is preparing to solemnly honor the life of 20-year-old BCSO Deputy Meredith Portillo, who tragically lost her life in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 37. According to KENS 5, the crash occurred last month and also claimed the lives of the driver of the other vehicle involved, as well as one of Portillo's passengers.
Portillo, who had just begun her career in law enforcement, graduated from the detention academy in January 2024, a detail shared by KSAT. A series of public events has been arranged to commemorate her service and life. Today, a public viewing is to take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapel South, with a rosary set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a memorial service tomorrow at Cornerstone Church. As reported by KSAT, the service is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m., with a prior procession departing from the Mission Park Funeral Chapel South at 9 a.m. and anticipated to arrive at the church around 9:45 a.m.
