Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s budget-friendly carrier, is providing another travel option for those flying out of San Antonio International Airport (SAT) with a new nonstop service to Guadalajara. Starting December 2, this route will open up seats for passengers four times a week, enhancing the connection between the two cities.

"Viva Aerobus is doing so well expanding its nonstop service to Mexico," Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation Department, remarked, “Guadalajara is a popular destination for business travelers, tourists who want to check out the birthplace of mariachi music and for people in our community who want to visit their friends and relatives.” Travelers can expect departures from SAT at 9:20 a.m., touching down in Guadalajara at 11:30 a.m. Conversely, flights will leave Guadalajara at 6:00 a.m. and arrive back at SAT at 8:10 a.m.

The addition of Guadalajara as Viva's sixth nonstop destination from San Antonio points to the growing demand for travel between the U.S. and Mexico. Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus, stated, “The four new routes to the USA will strengthen the region’s international connectivity. We see great potential in the Guadalajara market. In fact, we have a large list of domestic and international routes we could launch from Guadalajara and other large airports in the western part of Mexico.” The San Antonio route is part of a larger expansion from Guadalajara International Airport, which includes eight new routes, half of which will serve U.S. cities, according to a release on the City of San Antonio's official website.

In addition to Guadalajara, Viva Aerobus also connects SAT passengers to other Mexican locales such as Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico City, Monterrey, Queretaro, and seasonally, Torreon. Moreover, "Our team continues to work to expand nonstop destinations from SAT both domestically and internationally," said Saenz. "2024 has been another record-breaking year for us. The more you choose to fly from SAT and support our airport, the more that airlines notice, and expand service. We’re still growing and look forward to more exciting news to come." As reported by the same source, Viva will up the ante with increased service to Monterrey starting November 1, adding a third daily flight on several weekdays.

Tickets for the new SAT to Guadalajara route are available now, with sales open on Viva Aerobus’s website. This is a sought-after development for frequent flyers in the San Antonio area, providing not only business opportunities but deeper cultural exchanges between the sister cities.
