From August 16 to August 18, prospective pet owners can adopt a dog or puppy for only $20—a substantial reduction thanks to an unnamed benefactor.
The promotion surfaces at a trying time for the shelter, currently housing around 2,000 animals. With their resources stretching thin, the humane society has highlighted the pressing need for adoptions, particularly for the over 400 dogs seeking a new family. In an offer that extends beyond canines, adoption fees for all other pets have been slashed by 50% as part of the Clear the Shelters event, a campaign that traditionally seeks to address overpopulation in animal shelters.
This initiative opens doors for community members who may have considered adopting but have been hesitant due to financial constraints. With this reduction in the adoption fee, the San Diego Humane Society hopes to attract individuals and families alike to meet and hopefully take home a new companion. To accommodate potential adopters, the organization has adjusted its operating hours for extended browsing, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, with extended hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
