The San Diego Police Department is reaching out to the public for assistance in investigating a deadly shooting in the Ocean Crest neighborhood that occurred yesterday near 1200 Hidden Trails Rd. In an incident that claimed the life of a 40-year-old Hispanic man and left another seriously wounded, authorities are piecing together the circumstances of the evening's violence.

After being called to the scene just past 5:30 p.m., the officers from SPD's Southern Division found two men with gunshot wounds. The quick response from the officers, providing immediate care until paramedics took over, was ultimately unable to save one of the victims, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The other, a 42-year-old Hispanic man, managed to be transported to a hospital and is seriously injured but expects to make a recovery. While the names are held back, known is that both victims were residents of San Diego County. Witnesses report seeing a Lexus hastily departing the scene shortly after gunfire erupted. Mirroring the victims' misfortune, a vehicle matching this description, riddled with bullets, was later found by Mid-City Division officers. Situated near Upas St. and Florida St., this discovery has detectives probing a possible connection between the Lexus and the earlier shooting, though its role, if any, remains unconfirmed.
