Travelers passing through the San Franciso Bay Oakland International Airport will soon experience a taste of local charm mid-transit. The airport recently initiated the construction of 16 new retail storefronts as a part of its retail program, introduced by the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners earlier this year. The range of stores will include duty-free shops, automated vending concessions, and specially curated outlets highlighting Oakland and East Bay's unique culture and businesses, as detailed by the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport.

First to break ground among the new additions is East Bay Trails by Paradies Lagardere @ OAK, LLC, located strategically across from Gate 29 in Terminal 2. "We are very excited to be kicking off construction for OAK’s new retail program," said Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. "The new storefronts will celebrate Oakland culture and pride and East Bay businesses while providing convenient options for travelers looking to shop at OAK", Simon said, as per the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport.

The development plan underscores a commitment to regional representation, appointing major retail concessionaires like HG OAK Retail Concessionaires JV, Paradies Lagardere @ OAK, LLC, and MRG Oakland, LLC. These stakeholders have pledged to allocate a respectable portion of their retail space to showcase products from local vendors such as Oaklandish and Arandia Designs. Moreover, these companies are collaborating with Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) partners to further the inclusivity and economic growth within the community.
