A San Marcos woman has succumbed to her injuries following a dangerous collision earlier this month. The 73-year-old Maria Guadalupe Sanchez was declared dead at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido last Saturday, as reported by the Times of San Diego. Sanchez had been battling for her life since the 4th of August when she was involved in a head-on crash with a pickup truck near Deer Springs Road and Sycamore Drive in San Marcos.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Sanchez's prognosis was poor upon her admission to the hospital. Her health took a turn for the worse throughout her hospital stay. In an announcement provided by the Medical Examiner's Office, it was disclosed that the decedent, Sanchez, was operating a Scion sedan and, for reasons yet unclear, collided head-on with a Toyota pickup truck. The medical personnel who responded deemed her condition critical from the moment they arrived at the scene of the accident.
The cause of death was given as complications related to blunt force injuries sustained during the collision, as detailed by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Further investigations into the events leading up to the crash are still ongoing, as the exact causes remain to be determined.
