Scottsdale Water's head honcho, Brian Biesemeyer, has snagged the Arizona Water Association and Arizona WateReuse's Person of the Year accolade at this year's symposium in Flagstaff. With a three-decade track record in the world of water and its reuse, Biesemeyer has been a driving force in Scottsdale Water's innovative approach to water management. Under his watch, the utility scored an Arizona first, nabbing an Advanced Water Purification permit, and introduced the Citizen Water Academy to get the public in on the water conversation, according to a Scottsdale press release.
"Brian has been a steady and active leader with a mission to preserve our water resources and diversify our water supply to take us into the future," Assistant City Manager Greg Caton stated, as detailed in the press release. Biesemeyer's enthusiastic engagement with the community, city council, and various boards was cited as evidence of his vision for the city's water future.
The accolades aren't new for Biesemeyer, whose history includes stints on the WateReuse Association's national board and as a president of WateReuse Arizona. He's also been a mover and shaker on the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association's management board.
In a humble nod to his coworkers, Biesemeyer credited the award to the collective efforts of Scottsdale Water. "This award is a great honor and reflects well on Scottsdale Water as an organization that lives its vision of “water sustainability through stewardship, innovation, and people," Biesemeyer said. Dedication to innovation at Scottsdale Water is seen as a commitment to securing water resources for future generations.
For over half a century, Scottsdale Water has been at the forefront of supplying premium drinking water and modern reclamation services to its customers. The utility's accolades include the Association of Municipal Water Agencies' Platinum Award for Utility Excellence and the Utility of the Future Today recognition by the EPA, further cementing its place as an industry trailblazer.
