A woman is missing after she reportedly jumped into the Miami River early yesterday morning, and a search operation, now turned recovery mission, is ongoing. According to Local 10, the 30-year-old was seen by a man believed to know her, jumping into the river downtown just before 2:25 a.m.
Miami Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue have been involved in the extensive operation that began shortly after the incident was reported, but their efforts have been hindered by particularly strong river currents that since last night, which have made the search extremely difficult. "[The] current has been very strong since [Saturday] night which has made the search extremely difficult," Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez said in a statement, as CBS News Miami reported.
No sign of the woman was found after over three hours of initial search activities according to CBS News Miami. The concerned authorities including Coast Guard and Miami Fire are continuing their search, which is now termed as a recovery mission.
