Residents of Miramar are grappling with an unsettling series of events after a body was discovered in a canal yesterday evening, marking the second such unfortunate find in as many days. Miramar Police responded to a call after fishermen spotted the body near SW 196th Avenue, south of Pembroke Road, around 7:30 p.m., as reported by NBC Miami. A submerged vehicle was also found at the scene, though authorities have not yet been able to identify the make and model.

The appearance of a man with missing person posters is potentially searching for a relative. The man, a neighbor walking his dog, relayed to CBS News Miami, "neighbors told him that a body was found floating in the canal and that police were waiting for divers to retrieve the body." This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar discovery a day prior when another car was unearthed from a pond at Interstate 75 and Miramar Parkway, unrelated to the current investigation.

The back-to-back discoveries have stirred attention around the case of Carol Tormey, an 81-year-old with Alzheimer's who went missing 10 days ago and may have been last seen in Fort Lauderdale. A Silver Alert for Carol Tormey had been issued, with details of her possible vehicle circulated on social media platforms and by concerned community members. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department's post on X specified she might be traveling in a black Chevrolet Colorado with the tag number GYNM49.

While the awaiting son of Carol Tormey was present at the scene yesterday night, the connection, if any, between the found body and his mother has not been confirmed. "We just noticed that there was a lot of police action in the area and we always go around to walk our dog, we heard from one of the neighbors they had found a body in the canal floating," neighbor Rudy De La Mora told NBC Miami.
