Chaos erupted at the Chatham Ridge Shopping Center Tuesday morning when a security guard fired upon a man during a heated altercation. According to ABC7 Chicago, the incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on the 100-block of West 87th Street, involving a 23-year-old security guard and a group of individuals, during which the guard sustained a broken finger and responded with gunshots, wounding a 28-year-old man.

The confrontation quickly escalated to violence, the security guard, facing a verbal and physical onslaught from the large group, struck and consequently suffered an injury, while in his fraught state, discharging his weapon and hitting the victim in the wrist and ankle; the victim was later transported to University of Chicago Medical Center, reported to be in serious, but stable condition. WGNTV notes the security guard held a valid Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) and Concealed Carry License (CCL) at the time of this incident.

No additional injuries were reported in the clash that arrested the ordinary flow of commerce, as per WGNTV.
