
A violent episode unfolded at a Wrightwood McDonald's on Sunday morning when a man assaulted patrons with a hatchet-like object after his demand for free food was rebuffed. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, two women and a man were stabbed during the incident which occurred on the 7800 block of South Western Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Upon entering the fast-food restaurant and receiving a denial of his request for complimentary meals by the cashier, the assailant commenced attacking restaurant-goers with what has been described as a "hatchet-like object." A 45-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, while an 18-year-old man and another woman, also aged 45, were transported to Holy Cross Hospital with injuries deemed to be in good condition, according to Chicago Tribune.
As of the latest update, Chicago police have identified a person of interest related to the disorderly scene at 7832 S. Western Ave. This individual is currently under interrogation by Area 1 detectives, as per NBC Chicago.
The suspect had fled the scene following the attack and remained at large for some time. The evening after the horrifying altercation, the police stated that they were questioning a person of interest, hinting at a potential breakthrough in the case, as detailed by NBC Chicago.
