Three juveniles at Claiborne County High School are currently facing charges of aggravated rape after an incident at the school's football camp, District Attorney General Jared Effler announced on Friday. According to a news release cited in a Citizen Tribune report, the New Tazewell Police Department investigated the event with help from both Tazewell Police and the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office. The incident, dated July 30, is alleged to quickly have taken a grave turn from hazing to criminal activity.

In the wake of the situation, Nathan Medlin, the head football coach at Claiborne High School, tendered his resignation on Monday, though it remains unclear whether his decision to resign was directly connected to the ongoing investigation. This upheaval comes amidst rumors that swarmed social media platforms concerning the alleged incident. Claiborne County Schools was made aware of the allegations on July 30 and promptly contacted law enforcement authorities, as reported by WBIR.

T. Scott Jones, a Knoxville lawyer representing the 14-year-old alleged victim and his family, expressed deep concern about the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon his client. In a statement obtained by WBIR, Jones detailed that the young victim was sodomized with an object and is now at home after being checked out at a hospital. Jones's firm has begun its investigation into the grievous claims, which may not be the singular episode of hazing by the school's football team members.

As the community reels from the allegations, Claiborne County Schools issued a statement, referencing federal and state privacy laws that inhibit them from addressing specific student-related issues publicly. "Therefore, we would defer any and all questions on this matter to the District Attorney’s Office," the schools' statement, shared by WATE, indicated.
