A Porsche collided with a telephone pole on SR-4 eastbound near Franklyn Canyon Road yesterday, causing the highway to be shut down completely. The crash occurred at approximately 1:54 p.m., and emergency teams quickly responded to the scene to offer assistance. The incident involved only the single vehicle, and the male driver was not suspected of driving under the influence when he veered off the road for reasons still being investigated, as reported by CHP Contra Costa.
Blocked lanes led to a traffic advisory with no clear time for the road to reopen. Meanwhile, the red sports car driver, who sustained suspected minor injuries, turned down medical help. PG&E has been working to remove the obstruction caused by the downed pole, which led to significant disruptions in travel along the SR-4 corridor.
Travelers heading eastbound on SR-4 have been advised to use the alternative route of Cummings Skyway as a detour to bypass the blocked section. The incident prompted a swift response from Caltrans, which has blocked all on-ramps leading to SR-4 eastbound from Interstate 80 to the crash site at Franklyn Canyon Road.
