Murfreesboro is buzzing with new developments as the city unveils its latest attractions and improvements. The opening of a new Skatepark and Pump Track at Old Fort Park is set to bring excitement to the local skateboard, bike, and scooter communities. According to the City of Murfreesboro, the park features 12,000 square feet of skating space designed specifically for these activities. Mayor Shane McFarland spearheaded the ribbon-cutting ceremony, giving the community a new venue for sports and leisure.
The city also celebrated significant educational investments. A groundbreaking ceremony at Reeves Rogers Elementary School marked the start of a new 4,000-square-foot addition. According to CityTV reports, " The $2.8 million facelift will include a conference room for parents and teachers while enhancing security," as stated by the City of Murfreesboro. Meanwhile, Scales Elementary School hosted an annual Signing Day event to welcome newly hired teachers, likened to the exuberance of athletic signing days.
Golf enthusiasts can look forward to the re-opening of Old Fort Golf Club after extensive renovations. Set to welcome players again on August 30, the 18-hole course has undergone bunker enhancements, and green renovations, and will feature a new driving range tee. Tee time reservations are being accepted starting August 25, promising a refreshed golfing experience for the Murfreesboro community.
Murfreesboro is also focusing on safety and social welfare. The 8th Annual Operation Southern Slow Down is a multi-state effort to combat speeding at high-risk locations. Local volunteers continue to drive the Mid-Cumberland Meals on Wheels program, delivering hot meals and a touch of kindness to those in need. The city’s investment extends to animal welfare, with the adorable "Bo" being this month's featured pet at Rutherford County PAWS, eagerly awaiting a loving home.
